The five year Copper Country Trail National Byway Corridor Management plan was completed in 2005 and updated in 2011. The plan was originally drafted to achieve the 2005 Federal byway designation. It was completed by the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region with support from the Michigan Department of Transportation on behalf of the Copper Country Trail National Byway as part of the Michigan State Heritage Route Program.
